He Knew the Way

When I was young, I knew a man
Who walked with me and used to say
Stick with me son, I know the way
    T’will take us to Jerusalem.

Oh stick with me, I know the way
    T’will take us to Jerusalem
Oh stick with me, oh stick with me
I know the way to go.

We walked the road and came to a fork
The left was smooth; the right was rough.
The guidebook said to choose the right,
But my friend said it looked to tough.

But stick with me, I know the way
    T’will take us to Jerusalem
Oh stick with me, oh stick with me
I know the way to go.

I took the road the guidebook said,
The road which led the harder way,
But my friend took the other road
And as he left, I heard him say:

Oh stick with me, I know the way
    T’will take us to Jerusalem
Oh stick with me, oh stick with me
I know the way to go.

I took the road the guidebook said
And made the gate of Salem town,
But my old friend had lost his way
Yet these his words I hear this day:

Oh stick with me, I know the way
    T’will take us to Jerusalem
Oh stick with me, oh stick with me
I know the way to go.
