On Kissing Frogs
The Frog Kisser
I wonder what became the princess sweet,
who kissed the ugly frog for sake of love,
and filled her heart's desire, so pleased to greet
the tall the handsome prince, who claimed her love!
And when the joy of meeting came to end,
and settled on her mind the meaning then:
her kiss had changed the loathsome pest to friend.
How dare she kiss the lovely prince again?
But if she could not kiss for fear of loss,
what future could she hope to have with him?
Her hopes and dreams would all but turn to dross,
If fearing loss, she let her love grow dim.
I hope that she ignored the fearful cost
And kissed again her handsom prince, so tall.
With poets, I agree on having loved and lost:
'Tis better than to not have loved at all.
