  • Each Round will take a week to accomplish. On Monday morning participants will be notified by e-mail who the opponent will be for the current round. Game must be accomplished by 2PM Friday and the results turned in to James Garner.
  • The players of each game are required to obtain a chessboard and chessmen for play.
  • The players may choose day and time of tournament play. The tournament game should be played in the break room to allow for verification of play and spectators. If this is impossible due to job requirments, an alternate in the building location may be selected. (Please give notice so that spectators may be present. This will be more important during later stages of tournament)
  • A game must be completed in one session, adjournments will not be permitted. If time constraints require a participant to leave the table, he or she must conclude the game by either resigning the game, or having a draw offer accepted. Failure to do so is bad form and will be recorded as a resignation, or loss.
  • The players may elect to play a warm-up game before tournament play, or play another game after tournament play. The nature of the game, whether tournament play or otherwise, must be clearly stated before the game starts.
  • Tournament games are timed with one time control of 30 minutes per side. Maximum game time is 1 hour.
  • The players of the game must determine whether touching a piece requires movement of piece, and this fact must be clearly stated before commencing tournament play.
  • Color of men shall be determined by one of the following methods:
    1. The flipping of a coin. One player shall toss a coin, while the other calls heads or tails. If caller matches the coin, he(she) shall play white, otherwise he(she) shall play black.
    2. Random Selection of piece. One player shall take one (1) pawn of each color into each hand. The player shall then place the hands behind his(her) back and may exchange pawns between the hands. When he(she) is satisfied, the player must bring his(her) closed fists, each containing one pawn, forward. The opponent must then select which hand contains his (her) pawn. The first player must immediately open his (her) hand to the view of all present. The player selecting the hand will play the color thus chosen.
The selection of color shall take place just before the tournament game.
  • Spectators are allowed to be present, but must remain silent throughout tournament play.
  • Stalemates or draws shall not be permitted as a game result for a turnament game. If a game ends in stalemate, the game shall be considered a warm-up game and another game must be played prior to the Friday deadline. The play of another tournament game shall include the determining of color as described above.
  • Tournament is double elimination...if you lose two games, you are out of the tournament.
